Individualized behavior management support for individuals with I/DD and their families.

The At-Home Crisis Intervention/Behavior Training Program is available to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their families residing in the borough of Queens. The program supports individuals living at home who have developmental disabilities, including Down syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and other developmental disabilities that may be accompanied by behavioral challenges.

The program provides in-home training and behavior support for individuals who may be at risk of psychiatric disturbances or maladaptive behaviors that affect daily functioning. Working directly with individuals and their caregivers, the program emphasizes proactive strategies that help reduce challenging behaviors, strengthen adaptive skills, and promote greater independence at home, in the community, and during everyday activities.

How It Works

The At-Home Crisis Intervention/Behavior Training Program focuses on helping individuals and families develop practical strategies to manage behavioral challenges through:

In-Home Family Support

In-home assistance and training tailored for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

Behavior Management Techniques

Targeted techniques designed to effectively address, manage, and modify daily behavioral challenges.

Crisis Response Guidance

Practical guidance and strategies for navigating and managing behavioral crises safely at home and within the community.

Proactive & Positive Approaches

Positive behavioral approaches focused on reducing triggers and preventing behavioral outbursts before they occur.

Independence & Skill Development

Skill-building strategies that empower individuals to foster greater independence at home, in the community, and at work.

What to Expect

Services are provided in the individual’s home, allowing training and behavior support to be delivered within familiar daily environments. Individuals and their caregivers work together to learn practical strategies that promote positive behaviors, strengthen adaptive skills, and improve responses to challenging situations. Support is individualized to help participants build skills that encourage greater independence and more successful participation in everyday routines.
